request an appointmentHow is PicoSure different?
Developed by engineers and approved by medical professionals, PicoSure is an aesthetic laser system that was originally created to remove tattoos more effectively and less painfully than traditional laser systems. It delivers light energy in trillionths of a second, creating pressure waves instead of extreme heat to resurface skin.
PicoSure’s unique energy delivery system is highly effective at removing age spots and certain non-cancerous moles while reducing recovery time following a procedure when compared to traditional laser resurfacing techniques. It also helps promote the body’s natural healing response to improve the overall texture and tone of your skin.
How does a laser treatment promote healing?
Scientists discovered some time ago that when a cell is damaged, it signals surrounding cells to produce proteins and other substances that promote healing at the cellular level, such as collagen and elastin. This process results in smoother, more youthful looking skin that’s tighter and free of the skin discolorations associated with the aging process. PicoSure can also remove other skin spots such as freckles.
Traditional laser treatments cause this cell signaling when they burn away the top layers of skin and damage surrounding tissue. The PicoSure system applies pressure that effectively stimulates this natural healing response without using damaging heat. This decreases the pain and gives you effective results without the lengthy recovery time often required after a standard laser skin resurfacing procedure, which can take weeks to months to heal.
Does it remove moles safely?
Because moles can be cancerous, it’s important that Ernest M. Myers, M.D., F.A.C.S. do a thorough examination of the lesion before you begin PicoSure treatments. If he suspects an abnormality, he may recommend a biopsy before proceeding.
What is a treatment like?
There’s no special prep required before a PicoSure session. Each treatment lasts from 10-15 minutes. You may notice some mild redness and slight swelling in the treatment area that generally resolves after an hour or, at most, three hours. Discomfort is mild and often described as a stinging sensation, which can be alleviated with topical numbing cream. You can expect to return to work and other routine activities immediately following a session.
